About this collection

Snapshots of life at the Kelmscott Swimming Pool, from its opening on 30 November 1957 to its closure at the end of the 2004 swimming season.

The Kelmscott Swimming Pool was of two-thirds olympic length and cost £18,000. When the pool first opened, daring costumes such as the newly-fashionable Bikini were banned. (Settlement to City, p. 272-273, Carter & Carter, 2011)
